Social Ecology and Environmental Diversity in Teacher Education

Abstract This paper offers reflections on the development and potential of a transformative teacher education project as one component Professional Development Programs (PDPs) at Faculty Education comprehensive Canadian university. The work our program is set in Vancouver utilizes lenses social ecology environmental diversity (or SEEDs) to examine roles teachers bringing an awareness local/global sustainability issues student learning experiences. Using auto-ethnographical methods reflects critical place-based agenda highlighting democratic participatory its approach. We use experiences combined with relevant literature explore what inspirations might be drawn from evolving Drawing Bookchin’s ecology, practices are based conviction that most present ecological problems originate with/in deep-seated problems. It follows, this view, cannot understood, let alone solved, without more careful understanding existing society irrationalities often dominate it. In recent work, candidates identified strongly related theoretical notions Social Ecology Diversity; hence, identity (as seeds or seedlings) state flux we continue move adapt current socio-political conditions.
